Re: We need to talk about Mark
Isn't the notion that the captain will be Noble or Reid as much idle speculation as who will or won't be on the pitch. Not sure you can arrive at any conclusions based on two pieces of guesswork.

If he is good enough he will play. Has a lot to prove in my opinion.

Re: We need to talk about Mark
Thinking further on this, if indeed the captaincy is thought to be between Reid and Noble, this mere fact alone pours cold water over the idea that some posters have that Noble won't feature in the team on a regular basis next season. Additionally I actually think removing him as the predominant corner taker will actually allow him the chance to score more goals, as he would likely be positioned somewhere between the half way line and the penalty area with the chance to either receive a corner played to him directly to run onto and shoot, or more likely a defensive clearance where he could either shoot, clip a ball back into the box or even run at the defence; as it stands in the last few seasons he has had few of those type of opportunity because he has just taken the corner.

Last thing I read, it was probably between Noble and Reid.

Because he's on the bench ?

Re: We need to talk about Mark
I'm sure that Nobes will be with us for thelong haul but I can't see him being a regular starter next and therefore won't be captain.... what is the word on who will be skipper?

Reid would seem to be the obvious one but just doesn't seem captain material to me... Adrian? Song (if he comes back)?

I think people are going to be pleasently suprised by Nobey Nobes this season.

Re: We need to talk about Mark
Have we not done this to death again. Some people rate him more than others and some are on a windup.

The manager will watch him more than us and he will decide in the end.

Re: We need to talk about Mark
Whether or not Noble plays much next season is certainly open to question. What isn't in doubt though is that even if Bilic doesn't rate him, and uses him mostly as a bench warmer, he won't be leaving.
He's got 5 years left of a very lucrative contract, and it's unlikely any club is going to pay us decent money for him, and match his wages.
So unless we were to let him go on a free, he's going to be here for a very long time.

So you agree with me in that we shouldn't be getting rid of him but will be useful this season as a Squad Player.

Which yes, does mean starting and also being used to come on from the bench.

I agree with you in that he is useful to us I just think if everyone is on form and playing well, he doesn't start. But would be on the bench.

Nobody takes the option of Ronald_antly seriously surely?

He makes Fordy look a mere amateur window licker

Ronald_antly 11:51 Tue Jul 21

Well, considering he had by far the highest percentage of completed passes by our midfielders last year, as well as being way out in front with key passes, what does that say about the rest of them?

If Noble was "only following orders" that implies that he was instructed to give the ball away when attempting a pass over any distance greater than 10 yards.

I feel that is unlikely.

Good well balanced post which 90% of us get. Just the odd idiot like Fordy that thinks Noble took everything off his own back and wouldn't let anyone else near the ball.

I think Noble plays better when Nolan isn't playing. If it means we have to get rid of one of the two...

Before you go then stewie I'd just like t say thanks for popping in and letting us know;-)

To be honest apart from Fordfarts I don't think many people started to become dissatisfied with Noble's contribution until the past season.

Re: We need to talk about Mark
Have this thread every year, and every year the club brings in an 'upgrade' that will mean noble not playing much. He's been better than all of them.

As and when the actual upgrade happens, great, it'll mean we're improving, but until then I'm very happy with his contribution to the club.
And I won't be coming on here for guidance as to when this upgrade arrives.
